SCHOOL PERFORMANCES
Southern Danceworks tours two school shows geared to specific age levels. In "All Shapes & Sizes" (elementary grades), the dancers explore the world of geometry with gigantic, geometric shapes and a live percussionist. In "These Feet Are Made for Talking" (middle/high school), dancers, a percussionist and a narrator celebrate the development of the American art form of modern dance through a delightful sampling of dances from the SDW repertory. Giant spheres and bamboo poles highlight this entertaining and informative performance. Meet and talk to the dancers at the Q and A at the end of the program.
TEACHER WORKSHOPS
Teacher workshops can be presented prior to school performances to maximize the use of the study guides and to relate to current lesson plans that are relevant. Southern Danceworks also conducts teacher workshops for general classroom teachers on integrating movement into the curriculum and implementing the state arts education standards.
MASTER CLASSES
Southern Danceworks conducts master classes in modern dance technique for beginning, intermediate and advanced levels. For younger ages, classes in creative movement are available.
CLASSROOM PRESENTATIONS
Individual company members partner with classroom teachers to develop lesson plans that correspond to various disciplines. The dancer and teacher then present the lesson plan, with the dancer coaching the use of movement for illustration.
SPECIAL PROJECTS
Design your own project with Southern Danceworks to meet the arts education goals for your school or school system. Plan a series of performances, teacher workshops, and classroom presentations based on a theme. Southern Danceworks can also work with dance students on technique, repertory and choreography, culminating in a student performance. |
